: FAQs and Tips : Maintenance Tips :

Maintaining your lighting systems assure the highest quantity and quality in your lighting network. While the components of your system have a finite life and will ultimately need to be replaced, regular maintenance will insure the highest lighting quantity and quality through the life of the component. Accumulation of dirt on luminaire and room surfaces tends to reduce lighting quality and illuminance.

Human performance, safety, security and even perception of an area can be negatively affected without proper illumination. Energy resources can also be wasted. Illuminance can be reduced by as much as 25-50% or more by the combined effect of dirt depreciation and the age of the equipment, reducing productivity and safety. The cost of electricity is the same whether the lamps are new and clean or old and dirty. The most effective way to optimize your electrical dollars is through a scheduled maintenance program.

Light loss can be caused by:

  • Lamp lumen depreciation
  • Dirt accumulation on lamps and luminaries
  • Lamp burnouts
  • Deterioration of luminaire surface
  • Room surface dirt

The type of dirt and rate of accumulation will affect Luminaire performance differently. Lighting maintenance recovers these light losses.

An effective maintenance plan will include:

  • Cleaning lamps and luminaries
  • Replacing broken or defective components
  • Group relamping
